Information about Vernal, Utah
Vernal is located in the northeastern part of Utah and is an important intermediate point between Salt Lake City and Denver. Because of its central location, Vernal has become the commercial, educational, and residential center for northeastern Utah. The residents of Vernal enjoy all the advantages of a rural Utah lifestyle. From Flaming Gorge Reservoir, just forty-two miles to the north, to areas south of Vernal, along the Green River and into the Bookcliff Mountains, the Uintah Basin is known as a sportsman's paradise. Water sports, white water rafting, hunting, fishing, skiing, snowmobiling, hiking, backpacking, and camping are just a few minutes away. There are two large reservoirs within twenty minutes of Vernal and some of the largest primitive areas in Utah are located in the nearby Uintah Mountains.
There are many services and facilities which are usually found in much larger communities including restaurants, shopping areas, a nursing home, beautiful parks and playgrounds, a recreation complex with exercise equipment, gym and an indoor swimming pool, library, baseball diamonds, a local airport, golf course, movie theaters and much more. The Dinosaur National Monument, located twenty miles from Vernal, ranks third in the state in attracting visitors from all parts of the world. The area is widely known for its archaeological history. The Smithsonian Institute contains bones of dinosaurs from the monument's quarry.
